You can have lots of fun on the internet: playing games, chatting and learning about all sorts of great stuff. Cybersmart has activities, animations, a quiz and facts about being cybersmart and cybersafe online. You can paint, post a digital picture to share online and discover other fun websites to visit too.
Safer Internet Day is here!
9 February is Safer Internet Day 2010 across the globe and it’s a great time to think of the basics like remembering to always ‘think before you post’!
It’s a lot of fun to share things online with your friends—they can view and respond to your videos, images and other things you post. Remember though, you may not just be sharing with people you know. What’s more, your videos and images could be there for years to come. Everything you post makes your digital footprint and, once it’s online, it can be there forever. So get cybersmart and think, before you post.
Kids from around Australia had their own look at ways to keep safe online as part of the Screen It 2009 competition. Take a look at some of their great short films!
Remember:
- Think before you post. Once something is posted, it can be online forever.
-
Don't post anything you don't want others to know—or that you wouldn’t say to them face to face. Respect your friends too—that ‘funny’ photo of them might not be so funny for them, and they might not be very happy if you post it up for everyone in the world to see. Treat others as you would like to be treated.
-
Remember that private images and videos you send or post might be passed on to others and uploaded to public sites. Once they’re up you can’t remove them completely.
-
Respect other people’s content. For example, a photo that your friend took is their property, not yours. You can only post it online if they say you can.
-
Keep your personal information private. Don’t share personal details like your name, address or school with people you don’t already know in real life.
- If you plan to send private information to anyone using your mobile phone, talk to a trusted adult before you hit send.
-
Take care and you’ll have fun online!
